Lady Hale’s media coverage

The many press articles devoted to Lady Brenda Hale reflect the singular place she occupies in the British public sphere. One of the rare judicial figures to have transcended the narrow circle of legal experts, she is perceived as  a pedagogue of constitutional law, a guardian of judicial independence, and an engaged voice in favour of equality and inclusion. Her press coverage hence relays her direct style, her forthright positions on the role of the judge in a democracy, and her immediately recognisable personality, down to her famous brooches.

Gathered here, these texts give a different view of her work and career, and show how her legal thought has spread well beyond courtrooms and lecture halls. They usefully complement her academic writings and speeches by providing access to the way she is viewed by civil society and within the media debate. In other words, to the traces she leaves behind.
