The Observatoire du Brexit
Founded in 2017, the Observatoire du Brexit was initially created to monitor and explain the complex process of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, and to comment on it as closely as possible – and with strong responsiveness.
As of 23 January 2022, it became the “Observatoire du Brexit – Research Group on the United Kingdom and the European Union in the Post-Brexit Era.” The group aims to continue studying Brexit and its consequences for the United Kingdom and the EU, with particular attention to the following aspects: the implementation of the Brexit agreements, the normative and political divergences between the EU and the UK, and the impact of the UK’s departure from the EU, especially in its trade strategy with third countries. Beyond these issues, the Observatoire also studies the structural challenges facing the United Kingdom, many of which pre-date Brexit but have become more difficult to overcome since. It therefore seeks to provide analyses of the legal, institutional, and political developments of the United Kingdom in the post-Brexit era, the future of the British Union, and the Global Britain project (international relations and defence).
Since 2023, the Observatoire du Brexit – Research Group on the United Kingdom and the European Union in the Post-Brexit Era has been attached to the Chair in Comparative Public Law and Politics (Université Jean-Monnet Saint-Étienne, Faculty of Law; CERCRID UMR 5137).
The Observatoire du Brexit welcomes any submission in French or English from researchers working on these topics, whatever their academic discipline. All submitted articles undergo editorial review.
